New Delhi: An Apple Watch has reportedly been credited with detecting a 12-year-old girl’s rare cancer before she even knew about it, with the help of its heart rate information feature. As Hour Detroit reports, 12-year-old Imani Miles and her mother Jessica Kitchen now view the Apple Watch as more than just a gadget.
Imani’s mother, Jessica, noticed that her daughter’s Apple Watch began beeping incessantly, alerting Imani to an unusually high heart rate. “It’s really weird because it’s never happened before. It’s just taking off,” Jessica said. ,Also read: Post Office Scheme: Invest Rs 10 Lakh In This Scheme, Get Rs 14 Lakh In 5 Years,
The concerned mother took her daughter to the hospital, where doctors noticed a tumor in her appendix. It was then that they learned of a “neuroendocrine tumor” on her appendix, which according to doctors is “rarely seen in children”, the report said. ,Also read: Want to record video in cinematic style using your iPhone? When doctors found Imani’s tumor, it had already spread to other parts of her body, requiring her to undergo surgery to remove it. “If the clock hadn’t stopped, I probably would have waited and taken it over the next few days,” Jessica is quoted as saying.
“If he didn’t have that watch, it could have been a lot worse,” she said. According to the report, Imani underwent surgery at CS Mott Children’s Hospital in the US to remove the remaining tumor.
Earlier this month, the Apple Watch detected the pregnancy of a 34-year-old woman. The woman posted on Reddit that the watch indicated that her average resting heart rate had risen significantly in a matter of days, leading her to suspect that something was off.
In July, a rare tumor was detected in a woman’s heart after she received multiple alerts that her heart was in atrial fibrillation.
