Apple Inc. is pushing to launch its electric car in early 2025 and reorient the project around full self-driving capabilities, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. Shares of the iPhone maker rose nearly 3% to set a new record after the report. The report says that Apple’s ideal car will not have a steering wheel and pedals, with the interior designed for hands-off driving.
The company’s automotive efforts, known as Project Titan, have progressed unevenly since 2014 when it first began designing vehicles from scratch. Demand for electric vehicles has soared as countries and customers become more environmentally conscious, pushing the market value of companies like Tesla and Rivian far beyond traditional carmakers for decades.

“It’s a matter of when, if not,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said, adding that by 2025 Apple’s unveiling of its standalone car is as likely as 60% to 65%. The Bloomberg report said some working on the project were skeptical about the timeline even with recent progress, which include the car’s built-in self-driving system, processor chips and advanced sensors. Apple declined to comment on the report.
Reuters reported in December that Apple was targeting 2024 to produce a passenger vehicle that could include breakthrough battery technology of its own. Meanwhile, The Information cited a memo that reported that Apple was preparing to bring employees back to offices from February 1 and would let employees work remotely for up to four weeks each year.
