Fifty-six have been appointed to Southern Railway out of 61 candidates recruited and waitlisted for the post of Assistant Local Pilot (ALP) by Railway Recruitment Board, Chennai.

Taking credit for his appointment, Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan said his intervention in preventing attempts by outside candidates to fill up ALP posts has helped candidates from Tamil Nadu and Kerala get jobs.

He recalled that he had objected to the move of Indian Railways to fill up vacancies with candidates selected through RRBs of North Eastern Railway in September 2021.

Following his objection, the Indian Railways withdrew its order to appoint him from the North Eastern Railway.

After hiring 17 candidates of RRB, Chennai, Southern Railway has now hired another 39 candidates.

“Since the validity of medical examination of five candidates had expired, those candidates would be subjected to a fresh medical examination,” he said.

Mr Venkatesan said that the present move has ensured that only candidates selected through local RRBs will be posted in the respective railway zones.
