Paris: Indian archers sidelined after Tokyo Olympics defeat Deepika Kumari All set to return to India in the upcoming Phase 3 of world Cup Starting here on Tuesday.
Just a year after winning the individual gold at the same tournament last year, the 28-year-old world number three will be looking to redeem herself after failing to win a medal at the Tokyo Games.
With the Olympics set to be held in two years at the same venue, it will be an added inspiration for Deepika, who also won a silver medal in the 2013 World Cup final.
After returning empty-handed from her third Olympic campaign last year, Deepika, along with her husband and country’s top male archer Atanu Das, saw a decline in form and failed to make it to the Indian team.
The pair could not even qualify for the squad for the Asian Games, which were later postponed as the Archery Association of India conducted a fresh test of the top eight archers for Phase 3 of the World Cup.
Earlier the same team was to compete in both the World Cup Stage 3 and the Asian Games, but after the postponement, Deepika and Praveen JadhaviThose who were in the top-8 of the test conducted earlier, got a new opportunity and made the place.
Das, however, missed out on the top-8 exit in the earlier test.
Dipika cut the cost of Komalika Bari while her Tokyo Olympics mixed teammate Jadhav ousted Sachin Gupta to complete the World Cup Stage 3 lineup.
Deepika was last seen in action for India in the Yankton World Cup final in September 2021, where she finished fourth.
The compound section also saw the return of World Championships silver medalist Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who had failed to make it to the Asian Cup earlier this year.
World number three Jyoti last participated in the Dhaka Asian Championships in November last year, where she won the individual gold medal. She returned in place of Ragini Maku.
Sangampreet Bisla Removed the experienced and returned Rajat Chauhan in compound section.
