Surat: Police on Thursday launched a probe into the incident of a man carrying a pistol entering the venue of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ event in which Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other senior ministers were present.

Police sources said that Devani is a relative of VD Jalavadia. BJP Kamarej’s MLA, and could have reached the venue with him, due to which he was not thoroughly checked by the police stationed at the entrance.
Jalawadiya, however, denied being with Devani and told TOI, “Even I had entered the venue with a pass. I know him and he is my relative but he did not come with me. He himself came.”
Police investigation revealed that Devani, who possesses a licensed weapon, often goes out with her pistol. “It was a licensed weapon. How he entered the venue is not yet known and we are investigating.” Sagar BagmarDeputy Commissioner of Police, Zone III.
Devani told the police that he was a BJP worker and had come to support the programme. “The gun was not visible initially and was covered by his shirt. But when Devani extended his hand some police officers noticed it and he was immediately surrounded and taken out for questioning,” said a police officer.
