London: Retired Indian Judge, Justice Deepki Varmahas cast doubt on the assurances of the Government of India London Court regarding security of arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari (60) in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, saying that he had a real threat of violence and extortion in jail.
The government is seeking the extradition of Bhandari, an Indian national who fled to the UK in 2016 to face charges of money laundering and income tax evasion.

Verma also cast doubt on the possibility of a fair trial of Bhandari in India, saying that while he could be kept as an undertrial prisoner for years, the chances of getting bail are “absolutely zero”.
Prison conditions expert Alan Mitchell told the court that Tihar Jail was overcrowded and unsafe for a long time.
