Jaipur: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General MM Naravane was on a visit to the South Western Command Headquarters here where he was briefed by the commanders and briefed about the operational preparedness.
After a formal briefing and interaction with top officials along with other officials, the COAS took out time to visit the Amber Fort where he appreciated the glorious past and heritage of the desert state.
COAS interacts with Commanders Sapta Shakti Command and commended them for their high standards of professionalism and devotion to duty. Army Commander Lt Gen AS Bhinder also briefed the COAS about the security preparedness.
The South Western Command was formally established on 15 April 2005 and operated on the ‘Gothic Lines’ at Jaipur Military Station on 15 August 2005. This command, which is the smallest in the Indian Army, is particularly important due to the Indo-Pak border and the operational area covering the whole of Punjab as well as Rajasthan.
Just a few months ago, the COAS reviewed the Dakshin Shakti exercise, which was conducted by the Pune-headquartered Southern Command in training areas in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
During his visit to Amer Fort, he visited Singh Pol, Deewane Aam, 27 Kachari Ganesh Pol, Castle of glass, Mansingh Mahal, Sukh Niwas etc. and said that he feels proud to see this beautiful palace and was able to get a closer look at the history as well as the cultural heritage of Rajasthan due to this visit. He said that seeing the crowd of tourists, it seems that Amber is very popular among tourists. “I want to thank everyone who made my trip a memorable one,” he said. The palace was visited by the army chief amid tight security ties, during which he also wrote a note in the visitor’s book.
