Arpita Ghosh appointed as Bengal Trinamool General Secretary

The decision to resign from the post of Rajya Sabha MP was taken after consultations with the top leadership of the party.

Two days after the Rajya Sabha chairman, the Trinamool Congress on Friday appointed former party MP Arpita Ghosh as its state general secretary. accepted his resignation from the upper house.

TMC’s state unit president Subrata Bakshi made the announcement in a letter to Ms Ghosh.

On Thursday, he had insisted that the decision to resign as a Rajya Sabha MP was taken after consultations with the top leadership of the party, and it was not forced upon him.

The theater activist-turned-politician, who was earlier a Lok Sabha member, said there are differences between being an MP of the Upper House of Parliament and the Lower House. “When I got elected to the Rajya Sabha, the COVID-19 pandemic started and I didn’t get much chance to work as an MP. I think I will now focus more on organizational matters, and follow my passion. – Theater – If I stay here (West Bengal),” Ms. Ghosh had said.

His resignation was accepted by the Upper House Chairman and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday.

Ms Ghosh was elected to the Rajya Sabha in March 2020 after losing from the Balurghat constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
