As COVID-19 cases rise, Tamil Nadu imposes fresh restrictions till Jan 10

In view of rising cases of COVID-19, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday announced new COVID-19 lockdown restrictions across the state till January 10.

As per the announcement, no physical classes can be conducted for school students from class I to VIII. Play schools and kindergarten classes will not be allowed.

Classes for school students in classes IX-XII and colleges and ITIs will be allowed to continue with appropriate COVID-19 guidelines.

Only 50 percent customers will be allowed in restaurants, hostels, bakeries and dormitories. Only 50% of patrons will be allowed in amusement parks and amusement parks. Only 100 guests will be allowed to attend weddings and related events. In case of funerals, a maximum of 50 people can attend. All Exhibitions and Book Fairs [including Chennai Book Fair] Will be postponed, the chief minister said.

Only 50% of the customers are to be allowed in the jewelery and garment shops at a time. Only 50% of customers are to be allowed in gyms and clubs at any one time.

No stand will be allowed in public transport buses. Only 50% passengers are to be allowed in Chennai Metro Rail. Only 50% of patrons will be allowed in multiplexes/cinemas/theatres.

Beauty parlors, salons and spas are to be allowed only with 50% of customers.

Earlier in the day, Mr Stalin on Friday chaired a meeting at the Secretariat to review the COVID-19 situation and the spread of the Omicron version and the lockdown restrictions in the state.

Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister KN Nehru, Cooperation Minister I Periyasamy, Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudi, Public Works Minister EV Velu, Health Minister Mr. Subramaniam and senior officials attended the meeting.
