Summer has arrived and so is the time to sip on the gallon refreshing cooler. The very idea of a cooler reminds us of lemons. From fresh lemon soda to desi nimbu pani- we get a range of lemon based drinks this season. As a result, we see an increase in the demand for lemons in the market. This year, with the arrival of the summer season, we can see that the price of lemon has increased sharply in the last few weeks. It is being told that it is being sold for around one lakh rupees. 90 rupees a kg in Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi. As per the ANI report, it is being sold for Rs. 10 per piece in Hyderabad. On the other hand, the price in Gujarat has increased to Rs. 240 per kg.
“The prices have become really high. Earlier, we used to buy a whole sack of lemons for Rs 700, which now costs Rs 3,500. We are selling a lemon for Rs 10 and no one is ready to buy it No one is ready to accept it. Prices have gone up and going without procuring lemons,” a seller told ANI.
The price hike of lemons immediately took Twitter by storm. People took to the micro-blogging site to react to the price jump and as a result, memes and jokes started trending on Lemon on Twitter.
“When life gives you lemons, sell them. #lemons,” wrote one. Another tweet read, “Is this a new breed of lemon……?” Another comment read, “Is chaat wala bhaiya charging extra for lemon in chaat?”
