Former World Cup Winner India Coach Gary Kirsten There will be a ‘Mentor’ of the franchisee who is expected to receive his formal ‘Letter of Intent’ (LOI) during the month.
“As far as I’ve heard, they have signed Ashish as their head coach and someone who will be in overall charge of the franchise. Solanki will be the ‘director of cricket’ and is expected to double up as the batting coach. There is hope and Kirsten will be in a mentorship role,” a senior IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“Ahmedabad franchises cannot announce it formally as it is a BCCI order and they can make a formal announcement only after getting the LOI. The Ahmedabad franchise chief has already interviewed all three and shortlisted them for the season. -listed.” The source said.
Nehra has previously coached Royal Challengers Bangalore, where Kirsten was also involved for a few seasons.
They have had a long and fruitful working relationship ever since Nehra was a player and Kirsten was their national coach.
Nehra also shares a good rapport with Solanki, who has previously worked as a coach in the IPL.
Once the green light is received from the BCCI, the franchise will go ahead and select some assistant coaches.
Nehra was away from coaching for two seasons as he had decided that he would do such a job only if he had the profile of a head coach where he could make a difference both in terms of team structure and strategy.
He had several offers from various IPL franchises but it is understood that the former left-arm pacer is more eager to take up the challenge of building a crack team from scratch.
Both Nehra and Kirsten could not be reached for comment.
