Pakistan defeated India by five wickets in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 4 September.

Pakistan chased down 182 with a ball to spare after Rohit Sharma’s loss to India just a week ago in a Group A clash at the same venue in Dubai.

Pakistan also recorded its highest successful run-chase against India in T20Is. Last year, Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets with an unbeaten 152-run stand for the first wicket between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

This time, it was Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Rizwan who played the knack of taking the Men in Green to the finish line.

While Rizwan scored 71 runs in 51 balls, Nawaz scored 42 runs in 20 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.

It was Nawaz and Rizwan’s 73-run partnership for the third wicket that kept Pakistan looking for victory. Although both the batsmen lost in the run-chases, the rest of Pakistan’s batsmen did not show any kind of vein.

Asif Ali played an innings of 16 runs in eight balls with the help of two fours and a six. Khushdil Shah, who played an unbeaten knock of 35 off 15 balls against Hong Kong, played an unbeaten knock of 14 runs in 11 balls.

Earlier, Shadab Khan put the brakes on the Indian batting after Pakistan fielded first. The leg-spinner picked up two wickets for KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.

Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf and Nawaz took a wicket each.
