Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan admitted that Mahmudullah Riyadh and Mushfiqur Rahim do not need any reminders about their responsibilities in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Mahmudullah has recently come under the scanner for his poor form. Also, he was replaced by Shakib as the new T20I captain for the Tigers.
Mushfiqur is also not in the best form. However, Shakib, who was captained till the T20 World Cup in Australia, said that he has enough faith in the experienced duo.
“They are both a very important part of this system. They are aware of it. They know what their responsibilities are and what are their challenges. They know what position they are in. I have something different to say here No,” Shakib said at a press conference.
“After playing for so long, they are aware of the whole situation. We also know what we expect from them, as I said – they are a very important part of the team,” he said.
There have been some changes in Bangladesh after some of their stars got injured. Fast bowler Hasan Mahmood and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan were ruled out of the tournament earlier. Mohammad Naeem Sheikh has been included in the Bangladesh team.
Magura-born Shakib said that he will not scratch his head with the playing XI right now, but will think about it a day or two before his opening match.
“I am not thinking about the batting order or the eleven right now. We are trying to prepare with the best. I will think about how the XI will be 2-1 days before the match. Players who are used to playing in a specific batting order will try to find it with their best. We will work on the problem. 2-1 days before the match, I will think about who will be the best for the team,” Shakib said.
Bangladesh have to play their first match against Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan on 30 August at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
