Chasing 184, Sri Lanka needed 34 runs in the last three overs. Bangladesh pacer Abadot Hossain, making his T20I debut, conceded 17 runs in the 19th over to cut the advantage. Kusal Mendis (60, 37b, 4×6, 3×6) and Dasun Shanaka (45, 33b, 3×4, 2×6) chased down Lanka.

Mosaddek was bowled by Asitha Fernando in the final over, hitting the pacer for a six and two fours. Bangladesh batsmen used any pace to play the paddle scoop. Sri Lankan players made a mistake by placing fine leg inside the circle and spraying it down leg.
The spinner Mahesh Thikshana, who was brought into the attack in the second over, was the bowler’s choice. Thikshana’s spin and pace variation presented a puzzle that Bangladesh batsmen struggled to solve. He clean bowled skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who made room for an inside-out hit but missed the ball completely.
Fellow spinner Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets but proved costly. Fast bowler Fernando, making his T20I debut, scored 51 runs in his four overs.
Bangladesh was given a boost by the presence of a large contingent of their fans at the stadium.
