Srikanth and Chaliha topped the men’s and women’s singles trials respectively at the Jwala Gutta Badminton Academy in Hyderabad to join PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy for the individual events as the selectors announced the 19-member squad for the continental event.
Former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth and left-handed Ashmita Chaliha made it to the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Games in men’s and women’s singles, while Lakshya Sen, national champion Mithun Manjunath, Anupama Upadhyay will be part of the team championship line-up.

Srikanth and Chaliha topped the men’s and women’s singles trials respectively at the Jwala Gutta Badminton Academy in Hyderabad and joined PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy for the individual events as the selectors announced the 19-member squad for the continental event.
As per the selection trial format announced by the Badminton Association of India (BAI), three singles spots for men and women as well as one each in men’s and women’s doubles and two spots in mixed doubles were up for trial with the top-ranked singles. Players are also getting a chance to participate in individual events played after the team championship.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) said in a release on Sunday that both Srikanth and Ashmita secured their places in the individual events by winning all the three matches in Stage 2.
2021 World Championships bronze-medallist Lakshya Sen and national champion Mithun Manjunath will complete the men’s singles lineup in the team championship, while Anupama Upadhyay and Malvika Bansod will be the other singles players in the women’s team event.
The men’s doubles was the most keenly contested event with world no. 23 The new pair of Dhruv Kapila/MR Arjun, Krishna Prasad G/Vishnuvardhan Goud P and Suraj Gola and Prithvi Roy K are teaming up with two wins each with Kapila and Arjun on a better game margin.
Experienced Ashwini Ponnappa and rising Tanisha Crasto will be the second women’s doubles pair after Gayatri Gopichand and Trisha Jolly.
Crasto will also play in the mixed doubles event with Sai Prateek K while Rohan Kapoor and N Sikki Reddy will feature in the second mixed doubles event for India.
