New Delhi The Center has directed the National Medical Council (NMC) to allow medical students to upload documents related to their degrees and certificates on the government’s DigiLocker service to check the growing number of doctors with fake medical degrees.
According to the Indian Medical Association, there are about one million fake doctors in India, who are a threat to the healthcare system.
DigiLocker system will allow medical students to obtain valid educational documents and certificates in digital format directly from the issuer.
NMC secretary Sandhya Bhullar has now directed all government and private medical colleges to immediately upload and register their academic certificate data, such as degrees, mark sheets, admit cards, score cards, etc., on the DigiLocker system.
Bhullar said, “I request to ensure that all the medical institutions which come under the purview of NMC get connected with NAD (National Academic Depository) at the earliest.”
The move comes after Abhishek Singh, Chairman and CEO, National e-Governance Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Broadcasting, wrote a letter to the NMC, asking the body under the Health Ministry to use the Digilocker facility for storage of academic and students. is directed. “The digital copy available in DigiLocker shall be treated as identical to the original physical document as per Rule 9A of Information Technology (Protection and Retention) by the intermediary providing DigiLocker facilities. In addition, the Ministry of Education has issued instructions to national students to directly access their original issues in the digital format. Academic Depository (NAD) implementation through DigiLocker to facilitate obtaining authentic educational documents in the academic year,” Singh said in a letter to the NMC secretary.
