The Assam government has exempted children below the age of 10 years from its mandatory COVID testing guidelines to enter the state. In a notification, the health department said that mandatory COVID testing of double-vaccinated parents of children below 10 years of age entering Assam has been abolished. Fully vaccinated adults arriving in the state were already exempted from mandatory testing.
The notification issued by Anurag Goel, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, said, “Children below the age of 10 years as well as double-vaccinated parent/guardian(s) coming to Assam to undergo mandatory COVID-19 test exempted from.” Department.
However, the notification states that “voluntary paid test facility will be provided for such children if the parent/guardian so desires”.
The government had already exempted all incoming passengers with both doses of the vaccine from a notification issued before mandatory testing on arrival.
But passengers who have taken a single dose or not vaccinated at all, or are still symptomatic after receiving both doses, have to undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test at their own expense on arrival.
The notification said that the orders are in force for people entering the state through airports, railway stations, road border points etc.
This exemption has been given in view of the decreasing Kovid positivity rate in the state as well as in the country and the increasing number of people getting vaccinated.
Assam reported 137 new Covid infections on Sunday.
