The shock did not occur on 12 June in RDS 147A of Rig No SKP 135 of Rudrasagar oil area of ONGC in Bhatiapar. A private firm, SK Petro Services, was operating the well on behalf of the state -run ‘Maharatna’ company.
A senior district administration official said that about 1,500 people have been affected by the incident.
He said, “They are receiving the smell of gas and are not able to lighten their stoves or burn anything. We are providing them cooked food and constantly monitoring the situation,” he said.
The district administration said in a post on Facebook that from the area of blowout, 70 families have been transferred to a relief camp installed in a nearby Bangon, and all necessary arrangements are being ensured.
He said, “Currently there are doctors of the Health Department and Animal Husbandry Department. They are investigating the health conditions of both people and their domestic animals.”
An ONGC official had earlier stated that it was an old raw well without production, and a perforation job was running for zone transfer at the time of blowout.
“This is a kind of servicing of the well. Production should have started from a new area after the punching job. At the time of the incident, the logging perforation was underway.
