According to a senior Assam Police official, the Assam Police has arrested more than 34 people linked to al-Qaeda in the state.

Talking to the media, DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, “More than 34 people linked to Al-Qaeda have already been arrested. Assam Police will not allow such conspiracies to succeed. Some army training camps have been set up by Bangladeshis.”

The DGP of Assam also said that some new groups are emerging in the state and are taking advantage of the youth to spread radicalism.

“There are different types of groups of madrassas in Assam. Some new groups are emerging and taking advantage. Conspiracy from outside Assam, currently from Bangladesh and groups affiliated with Al-Qaeda, is influencing youth to spread bigotry,” said DGP BJ Mahanta.
