Samajwadi Party ally Om Prakash Rajbhar on Tuesday offered to resign from the post of MLA after being found guilty in the assault case registered against him during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief told the state assembly that he was falsely implicated and demanded a magisterial inquiry. “Sir Speaker, I am asking today to get the matter investigated by a magistrate. If I am proved guilty, I will resign from the House.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna assured Rajbhar of a fair investigation. “Investigation is going on and I want to assure the House that everything will be clear (‘Doodh ka doodh, pani ka paani hoga’),” he said. Recalling the incident, Rajbhar said that he had gone to a village in his parliamentary constituency, Jahurabad, when some people brought sticks there. Rajbhar said they informed the police and when the Karimuddinpur SHO came there, they were “adamant on thrashing” the police officer. After this the SP (Rural) and other officials came there and registered a case based on my complaint. Rajbhar alleged that the “criminals” were released at 11 pm and a case of thrashing and threatening people was registered against them. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said the report given by the police stated that the dispute was between both the parties and both had registered cases.
Earlier Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Objected to the language used by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna. Referring to the case registered against Rajbhar, he said, “There should not be so much enmity.” Responding to Yadav’s statement, Khanna said, “There is no enmity, no prejudice. It should be removed from the mind.” To this Yadav said, “Don’t be arrogant to win. We know how you won. If Delhiites had not come, there would have been no victory.”
