  • ECI also allowed candidates to file their nomination papers online
  • Polling will be held in seven phases on February 10, 14, 20, 23 and March 3 and 7.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday wrote to the Election Commission of India, suggesting the introduction of e-voting mechanism for citizens to cast their votes. The traders’ body lauded the commission’s latest move on technology, high usage of apps and allowing candidates to file their nomination papers online.

“In this context, we would like to suggest that the Commission should also introduce an e-voting system through which voters can cast their votes from anywhere in the world with any device having access to the internet,” the letter said. ” “By using online voting software, ballot confidentiality can be maintained under high security standards. The casting of votes remains anonymous because the technology system’s architecture can strictly separate personal data from electronic ballots.”

It said that the implementation of such a mechanism would reduce the cost. On Saturday, the commission announced the dates of counting of votes along with the dates of assembly elections for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab.

Voting will be held in seven phases. Voting will be held in Uttar Pradesh on February 10, 14, 20, 23 and March 3 and 7; Polling will be held in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand on February 14 while Manipur will go to polls in two phases, on February 27 and March 3.
