The Election Commission (EC) on Friday reduced the notice period from 30 days to 7 days for registration of new political parties in five electoral states. This decision was taken due to curbing of Kovid.
Under the extant guidelines, a party seeking registration has to submit an application to the Commission within 30 days from the date of its formation.
The applicant is asked to publish the proposed name of the party in two national and two local dailies in two days. The objection, if any, regarding the proposed registration of the party shall be submitted within 30 days from the publication of the notice.
The Election Commission on January 8 announced the schedule of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur.
In a statement, the Election Commission said that it was brought to the notice of the Commission that in view of the prevailing restrictions due to COVID, there was chaos and delay in transferring the applications for registration, which led to delay in registration. political party.
The Commission, after considering all aspects, has given relaxation and reduced the notice period from 30 days to seven days for those parties who have published their public notices on or before January 8.
“For all parties, including those parties who have published a public notice in less than 7 days before the 8th January, the objection, if any, shall be submitted by 5.30 pm on the 21st of January on or before the 30th day of the originally provided be submitted till the end of the period of days, whichever is earlier,” the statement said.
The commission had also relaxed rules during assembly elections in Bihar, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
