Assembly panel inspected various facilities in Kodaikanal

Members of the Public Undertakings Committee (PUC) of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly inspected various facilities in Kodaikanal on Tuesday.

Manoharan – Inspected the pharmacy and maternity ward in the government hospital of Kodaikanal.

According to an official release, he monthly took stock of the number of patients receiving medicine, the number of people seeking medical help and asked whether the supply of medicine was sufficient, and checked whether the patients were given medicines immediately. Mr. Raja said that Kodaikanal GH treated 350 patients daily. Soon, measures will be taken to install advanced equipment in various departments.

Further, after inspecting the Kodaikanal lake, also known as ‘Star Lake’, he said that the officials of the municipality and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board were instructed to remove the weeds at that point. Give where the water flows downstream near the bridge.

The team also reviewed the work done to remove mercury pollution on the hill as ordered by the court.

He said that to compensate for the felling of 415 trees, instructions have been given to the concerned officials to plant 10 saplings every month. At present, 715 saplings were planted and maintained by the civic body.

Later the team inspected a women’s hostel run by Adi Dravid and Tribal Welfare Department. The hostel built in 1996 is in a dilapidated condition. Mr. Raja said that the restoration work would be started soon at a cost of ₹ 40 lakh.

The team also took stock of how the beneficiaries were utilizing the loans obtained through Tamil Nadu Adi Dravida Housing and Development Corporation (TADHCO).
