Noida: A fire broke out in a flat located on the eighth floor of the city. ATS Parsvnath SocietyIn a skyscraper located in Sector 9 of Noida, the furniture of almost all the rooms was completely damaged on Wednesday afternoon. Fire officials suspect that the fire broke out due to a short-circuit in the air-conditioner in the bedroom of the elderly couple.
around 1 pm, when GL Mehta (86) And his wife Sudarshan was about to sleep when he was getting smoke from the air conditioner. Within minutes, the air-conditioner caught fire and thick smoke completely covered their bedroom.
As the Mehta family shouted for help, several residents, including the family of their son-in-law who lived on the ground floor, rushed to rescue them and helped the elderly couple get out of the flat. Within minutes, the society’s guards brought the fire under control with internal fire-fighting equipment.
Sudarshan Mehta’s son-in-law Narendra Dureja He said, “When the guards and other employees of the society saw the fire, they immediately tried to douse the fire with the help of the firefighters of the society. Fortunately, we were able to save our mother-in-law. Both of them are with us now.”
According to Dureja, the damage is yet to be ascertained. The elderly couple has been living in a rented flat for the last two years.
Chief Fire Officer Arun Kumar Singh said that though two fire tenders reached the spot within 15 minutes, the fire was brought under control by then.
“The fire was completely brought under control in another hour,” he said.
There are 644 flats in the society and at present 2400 residents are residing.
Yogesh Pandey, a resident of the society, said, “In our society, we have a fire tank, a motor pump and associated fire infrastructure in the basement and at a centralized location. Each floor has hose pipes to deliver water in case of fire. About Rs 1 crore was spent in making these fire infrastructure functional.
