Stone carvings, wood carvings, thangkas (scroll paintings) and metal crafts on display at Dilli Haat till December 31
81 artisans from the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh are part of the 3rd edition of ‘Enching Ladakh’, an opportunity to showcase handicrafts and handloom products of the region, in New Delhi.
“The event will see the presence of the Changpa (nomadic) tribes, who are the de facto herders and herders of Pashmina goats. They will also display value-added products made from luxury fibers including shawls, caps, cardigans, sweaters, socks, gloves etc,” said a spokesperson of the administration of the Union Territory.
He said that many traditional Ladakhi crafts, including stone carving, wood carving, thangka (Scroll Painting), Metal Craft, Wood Craft etc. are also on display this week.
The event was inaugurated earlier this week in New Delhi by the heads of the Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Kargil and Leh, Firoz Ahmed Khan and Tashi Gyalsan respectively.
The artisans will also be involved in industrial visits and training during this period. The exhibition continues till December 31 at Dilli Haat near INA Bazar.
