Aaron Finch’s Australia will take on Jos Buttler-led England in the third and final T20I match of the three-match series at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday (October 14). England already have a 2-0 series after winning the first two T20Is – both by eight runs.
T20 world champions Australia will be looking to finish the series on a high before defending their world title at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 next week. Legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Ian Healy is not happy with the performances of top-order batsmen like David Warner, T20I captain Aaron Finch and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who have three days to go for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at home. The hosts lost the series in the second T20I against England as scores of 4, 13 and 8 respectively.
Jos Buttler-led England beat defending T20 world champions Australia by eight runs in Canberra on October 12 to take an unassailable 2-0 series lead just ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup. A ‘real concern’.
Healy told SNQ Breakfast, “I’m really concerned that a lot of our weapons (batsmen) have worn out, and we may need to bat some more safe.”
Healy is worried about Finch’s form, which forced the 35-year-old top-order batsman to retire from One Day International cricket recently to focus on T20I cricket. The former cricketer said that if Finch is not able to find his rhythm, then he may not be able to survive in the World Cup.
“I have some real concerns, as the commentators did last night on Aaron Finch’s form,” Healy said, adding, “What he’s technically doing at the crease right now is unhealthy and he’s going to last the world.” No. Cup until it finds some real rhythm and it’s not there.
“The way he’s playing at the moment is to hit the dead-set ball in the middle of the bat to clear the field, because he hasn’t got any momentum through the ball. He’s just one side of the center last night. And he was caught and he was really disappointed. It’s looking bad for Finch at the crease, so he has to find something or he’s on the bench and it’s Steve Smith’s opening,” Healy said.
