Australia: Fuming France cancels meeting with Australia, India – Times of India

New Delhi: On the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the India-France-Australia Trilateral Group, United Nations General Assembly The session is now closed, the result of AUKUS – a tripartite security agreement between Australia, Britain and America which has left Paris angry.

France has been furious since the announcement of this new safety agreement, in which Australia canceled a $66 million contract with France for diesel submarines. France also withdrew its envoys from Washington and Canberra in protest, and canceled defense talks with Britain.
The tripartite is shaping up to be one of the more important minor-lateral groups. Indo-Pacific, where the three powers bring complementary abilities to the table. The first meeting of the three ministers took place on the sidelines of the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in London in May, which was followed by the Foreign Secretaries’ meeting in September, 2020. The first meeting focused on joining forces against illegal, unreported. and irregular (IUU) fishing, something that Chinese fleets do on a large scale.
It is believed that after biden-macron Conversations and public protests expressed by the US, US-French relations may soon improve. Australia may however be in a sweat for a while, so this trilateral meeting may take some time.
