Author Taslima Nasreen’s post on surrogacy takes Twitter by storm – Times of India

Taslima Nasreen, Bangladeshi-Swedish author, and activist is in the news yet again due to her controversial social media posts after Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas announced their first child through surrogacy. Though she did not take any specific names, Nasreen criticized the process of surrogacy and even questioned the sentiments of women who choose to achieve motherhood through surrogacy.

For the unversed, surrogacy involves a woman agreeing to carry the child for someone else. After the birth of the child, the birth mother provides custody and guardianship to the intended parent or guardians.

“How do those mothers feel when they have their readymade babies through surrogacy? Do they have the same feelings for children as mothers who have given birth?” Posted Nasreen on Twitter on January 22.

“Surrogacy is possible because there are poor women. Rich people always want the existence of poverty in society for their own interests. If you badly need to raise a child, adopt a homeless one. Let the children inherit your qualities Must be — it’s just a selfish narcissistic arrogance,” she said. Nasreen further said that she will not accept surrogacy until the “rich” women themselves become surrogates.

His post on the subject received mixed reactions from netizens. While some commented that it is the individual’s choice and in many cases, people may opt for surrogacy for medical reasons, others said that it was highly insensitive of Nasreen to say something like this.

Meanwhile, in a latest development, Nasreen on January 23 posted a clarification regarding her earlier tweets.

“My surrogacy tweets are about my differing opinions on surrogacy. Nothing to do with Priyanka-Nick. I love the couple,” read her post on Twitter.
