Kia India has released the monthly sales number for December 2021, during which the company sold 7,797 units. Compared to 11,818 units sold during the same month in 2020, the company witnessed a decline of 34 per cent. A major reason for this decline in sales will be a lack of production due to a global shortage of semiconductor chips. For the full calendar year, Kia recorded cumulative sales of 2,27,844 units, which is a substantial increase of 62 per cent as compared to 140,505 units sold in CY2020. Here, we have to consider the fact that 2020 was plagued with challenges related to COVID-19 and the company’s best-selling model, the Sonet, was also not on sale in H1 2020. Commenting on the company’s sales performance, Tae-Jin Park, MD and CEO, kia india Said, “It is heartening for us to see that Kia India has witnessed a strong growth in a year ahead due to supply-side issues and rise in raw material cost. We have entered the Indian automotive market. Have sold over 3.7 lakh units since. Kia Seltos was the top contributor with 4,012 units in December 2021, while Sonet and Carnival had 3,578 and 207 units respectively. The company is ranked among the top 5 car manufacturers in the country with a market share of 6 per cent in the domestic market. For the entire calendar year, Kia sold 98,168 units of Seltos, 4,178 units of Carnival and 79,309 units of Sonet between January and December 2021.
