PUNE: Eleven students, including seven girls in the age group of 10-15 years, were injured when a school autorickshaw rammed into a tree after a pickup van rammed into Bori Bhadak in Daund taluka. Pune-Solapur Highway Monday at 7.30 am.
Police said the autorickshaw driver also suffered serious head injuries in the accident and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police said one of the students suffered fractures in his arms and legs, while the rest suffered minor injuries.
“The autorickshaw was taking students to a school in Uruli Kanchan when it was hit from behind by a pickup van on the highway. The van driver fled leaving his vehicle at the accident spot,” Inspector Narayan Pawar of Yavat police station said. ,
Yavat police in rural Pune have registered a case of rash and negligent driving under section 279 of the Indian Penal Code, along with other charges of the Motor Vehicles Act, and are on the lookout for him.
