According to the Badminton Association of India, the India Open Super 500 tournament will go on as scheduled despite the entire England contingent withdrew from the tournament after two of their players tested positive for Covid-19.

England doubles specialist Sean Wendy and coach Nathan Robertson tested positive for COVID-19. However, the organizers said that the COVID tests of all the players conducted this morning at the team hotel came out negative.

BAI tweeted, “Entire @BadmintonEnglnd team was withdrawn two days ago and they are not here in India. #YonexSunriseIndiaOpen2022 is on track and as per protocol all players tested at hotel this morning have come back negative.”

Wendy’s men’s doubles partner Ben Lane also confirmed the development with a Twitter post.

“No India Open this year for me and @SeanVendy after he tested positive for COVID along with our coach @Nath_Robertson,” Lane tweeted.

The India Open will be held in the national capital from January 11 to 16 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the country. Organized by BAI, the USD 400,000 Super 500 event will mark the start of the 2022 BWF World Tour season.
