Bail plea of ​​the accused in BSNL Cooperative. society scam rejected

A Thiruvananthapuram court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by the accused in the BSNL Engineers Cooperative Society scam case.

Thiruvananthapuram Additional District and Sessions Judge K.K. Vishnu accepted the government’s contention that the true gravity of the scam could be ascertained only through custodial interrogation of the functionaries of the society.

The anticipatory bail pleas were filed by governing body member KV Prasad Raj from Kumarapuram, Manoj Krishna from the Medical College, Anil Kumar from Pathanamthitta, and Minimol from Srikaryam.

Additional Public Prosecutor M. Salahuddin, appearing for the government, informed the court that probe into the scam revealed that around 2,000 depositors were defrauded to the tune of over ₹200 crore. He further argued that the investors had put their hard earned money in the co-operative society in the name of the institution in which they worked because they had faith in it. He said that the accused have destroyed this trust.

The government also told the court that the office bearers of the society had bought properties worth crores using the money embezzled from the society. The court will pronounce the verdict on the bail plea of ​​another accused KV Pradeep Kumar, who is in judicial custody.
