Bangladesh pacer Shorful Islam is set to take part in the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from Sunday, May 15. Earlier, the Young Turks had missed the two-match Test series against South Africa due to an ankle injury.

Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed missed the bus for Bangladesh’s upcoming home Test. The 27-year-old pacer is recovering from a shoulder injury and the BCB was planning to send him to England for further treatment.

‘Big boost for us’

“He (Shorful) is available for us from the opening Test against Sri Lanka as he will not require any operation at this point of time. It will be a big boost for us as we are also missing Taskin’s (Ahmed) serve at the moment BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.

Apart from Shorful, Tigers have Shohidul Islam, Rezaur Rahman Raja, Khalid Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain for the first Test. Abu Zayed Rahi missed the bus, following which the 28-year-old Sylhet pacer expressed his disappointment.

The Sri Lankan team is scheduled to reach Bangladesh on May 8, after which it will take part in a two-day warm-up match from May 11 at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram. The second and final Test of the series will be held from May 23 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
