Bangladesh to beat New Zealand For the first time in Twenty20 Internationals, the visitors were bowled out for 60 in the first match on Wednesday. Shakib Al Hasan scored 25 as Bangladesh chased down the target by seven wickets in 15 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series in Dhaka. But it was the bowlers who set up the win with Mustafizur Rahman to dismiss New Zealand for their joint-lowest T20 total – the same score against Sri Lanka in Chattogram in 2014 – in 16.5 overs.

Captain Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls scored 18-18 runs while the rest of the batsmen could not reach double digits.

Spinner Nasum Ahmed, Shakib and fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin took two wickets each.

Mahedi Hasan dismissed debutant Rachin Ravindra in the first over and was dismissed for a golden duck after being bowled by the off-spinner.

Shakib picked up five wickets to Will Young and left-arm spinner Nasum two wickets in an over, which included Colin de Grandhomme, to reduce New Zealand to 9-4.

Latham and Nicholls put on a 34-run stand for the fifth wicket but Saifuddin broke the stand with the captain’s wicket and shattered New Zealand even more.

Debutant Cole McConchie was dismissed for naught and Saifuddin sent Nichols back as New Zealand’s batting fell like a deck of cards.

Bangladesh, who bowled out Australia for 62 last month to seal the T20 series 4-1 in Dhaka, took New Zealand to their lowest score ever.

In reply, Bangladesh lost their openers for just seven runs, with Mohammad Naeem falling to McConchie and Liton Das getting out on a left-arm spin off Ejaz Patel.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored 16 runs, and captain Mahmudullah Riyad, who scored 14, took the team home before Ravindra stopped at Shakib’s wicket.
