Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared Akash Saxena – believed to be the man behind the First Information Report (FIR) against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, his son Abdullah Azam Khan and wife – Khan is out on bail after spending 23 months in jail as a candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, Abdullah Azam. He is likely to contest from Sig constituency in Rampur district.
abdullah He had contested from the same seat in 2017 but his victory was declared null and void by the Allahabad High Court on the use of forged documents. Though his name has not been officially announced by the party, Abdullah is likely to contest from Boar, one of the five seats in the district for which he has started campaigning. Rampur has been a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party for more than 40 years.
“When I came out on bail, the officials forced me not to speak to the media and not to meet the former SP MLAs. The definition of freedom has changed now,” Abdullah said while sipping a hot glass of water after his speech at the party office.
In a case of forged documents, Azam Khan along with his wife and son surrendered before the court. Abdullah had got bail in September, but was out recently. Khan is still in jail. “I got out of jail so late because of my father. People are not safe in the jail premises. There were nights when I thought we wouldn’t see the next morning. We hoped that we would come out of jail together. I stayed inside for his health and safety.”

According to Saxena, there are 104 court cases registered against Azam Khan. Apart from land encroachment, Khan and his family have also been accused of stealing goats, buffaloes and books.
Abdullah further said, “According to the case, I must have been 12 or 13 years old when I had taken possession of the land. As far as the forgery of birth certificate is concerned, my age is the same as recorded in the records. Why would I forge documents? Our relations with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are such that I would have got ticket easily in 2022, why would I forge documents to become MLA in 2017? There was a mistake and we corrected it long back Was.”
There were reports that Abdullah was upset over not giving tickets to the 12 minority candidates suggested by Yadav, to which he said there was no such issue between them.
Asked whether his father and he would contest the upcoming elections, Abdullah said whatever he would do, he would SP decides. “There must have been a reason why my father has been winning the seat for 40 years,” he said.
Meanwhile, Saxena is confident of his victory. He said CM Yogi Adityanath He is constantly in touch with them to know the mood of the land.
“I started it alone, but now thousands of people are against Azam Khan in this fight. This is from the year 2012. Our patience was tested when plots of Jauhar University were occupied and many people lost their shelter. Khan acted as per his wish. During his campaign, Saxena has a folder which he calls “evidence of forgery by Azam Khan”.
Responding to the allegations of abuse in jail, he said, “The day Azam Khan tested positive, the government sent an ambulance outside the jail, but Khan denied it. The ambulance kept waiting. On the ninth day, he agreed to go to a hospital, where he stayed for three months, but the BJP did not take up the issue.
