The BCCI is expected to appoint the chairman of selectors for the Indian cricket team after Chetan Sharma resigned from the post. According to BCCI sources, an announcement is likely to be made before the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The series is expected to be held after the ICC World Test Championship final between India and Australia at The Oval in June.
The post has been lying vacant since the resignation of Chetan Sharma in February this year. Currently, former India opener Shiv Sundar Das is the acting president following the resignation of Sharma.
Chetan Sharma resigned as the chief selector of BCCI in February this year and sent his resignation to secretary Jay Shah, who accepted it. The news came after Sharma got embroiled in a nasty controversy following a sting operation, after which he faced a lot of scrutiny.
BCCI’s previous comments
A senior BCCI source said on condition of anonymity, “After this sting no player or selector will be comfortable sharing cordial relations even with good journalists.”
“Chetan spoke too much. No top Indian player talks to him. Have you seen him talking to Rahul Dravid, Virat KohliOr Rohit Sharma Publicly in a training session? He used to stand in a corner during the T20 World Cup in Australia and no one bothered to talk to him,” said another BCCI source in Australia.
