India’s 1983 World Cup-winning hero Roger Binny is set to take over as the new chairman of the cricket board as incumbent Sourav Ganguly, who has held the position for three years, is expected to replace him.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party surprised the TMC and many pundits by winning 18 out of 42 seats in Bengal. Thereafter the saffron outfit managed to win the 2021 assembly elections, though unsuccessfully.
Ganguly became the BCCI president in 2019, and later in Bengal there was talk that “Dada (Sourav) will join the BJP and give a fight to Didi (TMC chief Mamata Banerjee).”
However, due to heart ailment, Sourav got admitted to the hospital just before the assembly elections.
There is no confirmation whether he was approached by the BJP to take a political step.
In May this year, Ganguly hosted Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders at his residence, putting an end to the rumours.
BJP Bengal spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “Dragging Sourav into such a political game is defaming him. TMC is doing this.”
Maharaj, as Ganguly is known in Bengal, was also recently seen on stage Mamata Banerjee At a rally of the state government to thank UNESCO for giving heritage tag to Durga Puja festival.
Also, his wife Dona Ganguly’s dance troupe was seen performing at a Durga Puja carnival in the state this year.
