He said that the water level in Vedganga and Dudganga tributaries was being monitored continuously and asked the people of the basin area to move to safer places.
“There has been no human or livestock casualties in the district in July. NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed at important places and are working closely with the local administration and police. 30 boats have been kept ready. Local schools are being used as Kalaji centres.
Belagavi district’s superintendent of police (SP) Sanjeev Patil said the police are ready to help in case of floods. Local officials including Chikodi Assistant Commissioner Santosh Kamgowda and Tehsildar were present.
Villagers of Chikkatadasi in Ramdurg taluk have demanded that the village affected by the floods in the Malaprabha river be shifted every year.
The villagers, led by pro-Kannada activist Ashok Chandergi, met Additional DC Ashok Dudagunti on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum.
Every time the Malaprabha blooms, the villagers move to the top of a hill and stay there in tents until the flood waters recede. The villagers boycotted the last assembly elections, condemning the negligence of the local people. MLA And the ministers demanded the relocation of the village, which they have raised since 2006.
The state revenue secretary had last year sought a detailed report from the deputy commissioner, which has not been given yet.
Ashok Chandergi said that land is available to shift the village. The villagers have also given this information in writing to the government. Still, nothing has happened, he said.
Additional DC has now called Ramdurg Tehsildar and instructed to send the report at the earliest.
