Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha was arrested by the CBI on Monday morning from his residence at Burwan in Murshidabad district. Investigation of corruption scam case for job in schoolsources said.
Mr. Saha, an MLA from Burwan constituency, was being questioned by CBI officials since April 14 in connection with a case related to alleged illegal recruitments in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools.
Sources said Saha was arrested by CBI officials from his residence this morning and taken in a convoy of vehicles with CRPF security.
He was being taken to the probe agency’s office in Kolkata, they said.
One of the MLA’s two mobile phones, which he allegedly threw away after CBI officials raided his house, was recovered from a pond next to his residence in Murshidabad on Sunday evening.
Mr Saha is the third TMC MLA to be arrested in connection with the probe by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.
East Minister of State Partha Chatterjeewho held the education portfolio between 2014 and 2021 when irregularities were reported in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in state government-sponsored and aided schools, and another MLA Manik Bhattacharya were arrested earlier.
Bhattacharya is the former chairman of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education.
The CBI and Enforcement Directorate are probing the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court and probing the alleged money transactions involved.
