Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, saying that it is actively protecting those accused in the Teacher Recruitment Scam (SSC scam), thereby jeopardizing the state’s entire education system. Speaking at a rally, PM Modi expressed grave concern for the future of countless poor families in Bengal whose aspirations have been shattered by the widespread corruption.

“The future of countless poor families in Bengal now looms in deep darkness due to this SSC scam,” PM Modi said as he highlighted the plight of deserving candidates who have been denied opportunities due to the fraudulent recruitment practices.

PM said, “The state government has ruined the careers of many talented teachers in Bengal” as he said that West Bengal is currently facing several serious challenges.

The West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) scam involved widespread allegations of corruption and irregularities in the appointment of teachers and non-teaching staff in state-run schools through the 2016 recruitment process.

PM Highlights Five Major Crises In West Bengal

PM Modi highlighted the “crisis of violence and anarchy spreading in society” as the first major concern and then addressed the alarming issue of “unsafety of our mothers and sisters who are being subjected to heinous crimes,” pointing to a significant deterioration in the security of women in West Bengal.

The third crisis is the “extreme despair and rampant unemployment spreading among the youth”, PM Modi said. Identifying the “continuously declining trust in the system” as the fourth critical challenge, PM Modi said that there is a widespread erosion of faith in the state’s institutions.

Slamming the Mamata Banerjee government, PM Modi said that the Trinamool Congress is involved in “selfish politics that steals the rights of the poor”- only prioritising self-interest over the welfare of its citizens.
