BENGALURU: A man threw acid on a 24-year-old woman on Thursday morning in West Bengaluru’s Sunakadkatte after she refused a marriage proposal.
The victim, an employee of a private finance firm, suffered more than 25% burns and is being treated at a private hospital.
The incident took place at around 9 am on the stairs of his office building.
“The victim has sustained burn injuries on her chest, back and head. The woman got immediate treatment and is now out of danger. However, the doctors told us that they would keep him under observation for seven days,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sanjeev M Patil.
Kamakshipalya police have identified the suspect as Nagesh, an employee of the textile factory.
He had gone to the woman’s office on Wednesday night and proposed to her.
He declined her offer and his colleagues intervened and asked him to leave her alone.
He obliged and left on Wednesday night only to return early on Thursday to carry out the attack.
He arrived with a bottle of acid and when she reached her office building, threw it at her and fled the spot.
Police has launched a search operation with several teams to trace Nagesh.
