BENGALURU: Days after rain-induced floods wreaked havoc in parts of Bengaluru, the civic body on Monday launched a drive. demolition drive,
a team of Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation ,bbmp) started the exercise at eight places which were reportedly causing floods in and around Bellandur in Mahadevapura area.
Quoting official sources, PTI reported that the BBMP identified at least 10 places in the Mahadevapura area that were blocking the flow of rain water, including a major private school building, playground and gardens, who had encroached upon the storm water drainage.
He said the next challenge before the authorities is to demolish an elite apartment right next to the school.
As per the report of ANI, encroachment will also be done in the SR of Chellaghatta, Chinnappana Halli, Basavannanagar, Spicy Garden and Basavanapura ward.
The BBMP said the encroachment area has been identified by the land surveyor on the Cambridge College campus and it is being cleared by JCB machines with the help of corporation officials, a team of marshals and police personnel.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said there would be no partiality in the drive to clear the alleged encroachments of storm drains, which are said to be the major cause of floods in Bengaluru after the recent heavy rains.
He told reporters, “I have given clear instructions to the authorities to remove anyone who has constructed structures on the rain drains and obstructed the flow of rain water. This I have done earlier,” he told reporters. The day has been clarified.”
“There is no question of any bias on this issue,” Bommai said.
Asked whether big companies were found encroaching on storm drains, Bommai said, “Whoever they are, we will not spare them. Everyone suffered during the floods, be it IT-BT people or common people.” ”
Bommai said that houses in low-lying areas have also faced problems. He said that the work of removing all the encroachments would be completed.
Asked whether the government would file a caveat in the court, Bommai said it has received directions from the court.
“Also, we will give all the information to the courts. This time we will take an action anti encroachment campaign On Large scale”.
