Bengaluru civic body launches campaign against single-use plastic

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which cracks down on single-use plastic, is conducting surprise inspections of shops and manufacturing units. Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, has directed all zonal officers to implement complete ban within BBMP limits.

During a surprise inspection of an agricultural enterprise unit at Subramanya Main Road in Padmanabhanagar ward, the BBMP seized 200 kg of banned plastic and imposed a fine of ₹6 lakh (including pending fine). Similarly, single-use plastic was found in another unit near Gaudanpalya in Padmanabhanagar ward.
