Bengaluru property owners getting digitized property cards: Check how to apply

Property owners in Bengaluru have started getting digitized, geo-referenced property cards with all relevant information. These have already been distributed in four wards in the name of Urban Property Ownership Records (UPOR) cards. The work of distribution in three additional wards is already underway. The UPOR initiative aims to create complete, official documentation of property ownership in metropolitan areas. Property sketches and ownership information, including rights, title and interests, are contained in the UPOR card.

The pandemic caused the initial phase of the project, which was launched in 2018 to be a stop-start, to address concerns over old land records. In November 2018, the department authorized a drone survey in Bengaluru.

Following the completion of a pilot project in Jayanagar and Ramanagara in Bengaluru, a larger, two-stage survey was authorized for Tumkur, Hassan, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Ramanagara and Bengaluru City. The initial phase of the survey was to cover 51,000 sq km (1,000 sq km for Bengaluru and surrounding areas and 50,000 sq km for the other five districts).

Owners can apply to the Revenue Department to physically mark the boundaries of their properties. Post-sale changes will happen automatically, and owners won’t need to ask anyone for an “account” transfer. Because residents can automatically divide their assets thanks to a digital sketch, having a UPOR card will make the process of division, inheritance and inheritance easier. Additionally, it will help residents to get bank loans and other benefits.

Every square inch of each property in Bangalore has been imaged. The image is then physically digitized by measuring the dimensions on the ground. Thereafter a notice is given to the owner to post all the ownership documents on the UPOR website. Both BBMP and official records are collected at the same time. A draft card is prepared, and citizens have a month to raise their voice on any issue. Moudgil said the draft is considered final if he has no objection.
