New Delhi: Karnataka’s health department has asked all district administrations to be alert and prepared for monkeypox cases, directing capital Bengaluru to start screening passengers at the airport.
reports The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will screen passengers at international and domestic flight terminals, railway stations and other entry points to the city to check for the disease, said the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The state has said that anyone who tests positive will be quarantined for at least 21 days.
Karnataka has made it mandatory for the administration to report cases, after which detailed testing and sample collection will be done. The data will also be put on the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP).
Health officials said all samples will be tested at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. The suspected patient will remain in a designated isolation facility until test results are available.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has called an urgent meeting on Tuesday following the death of one person from monkeypox in neighboring Kerala.
The kingdom was stunned two days ago when an Ethiopian national – who had symptoms of monkeypox – tested positive for chicken pox.
The total number of people infected with monkeypox in India rose to six on Monday after a 35-year-old Nigerian man tested positive in Delhi. That is the second case in the national capital.
A 22-year-old boy from Kerala, who died on July 30, was the first person to die of the disease in the country.
He had traveled from UAE to Kerala where he tested positive for the disease on July 19. Officials said his symptoms worsened after coming to India. He was found positive for the viral zoonotic infection in further tests conducted by the Health Department of Kerala.
