With controversial Indian-origin Better.com CEO Vishal Garg, who was heavily trolled for laying off 900 employees on a Zoom meeting call, back to the top, the exodus of senior executives at the digital mortgage company continues. . As TechCrunch reports, Sarah Pierce, who served as executive vice president of customer experience, sales and operations, and Emanuele Santa-Donato, who was senior vice president of capital markets and development, have stepped down.
“Pierce was reportedly upset at the way Garg publicly humiliated employees, most of which he reported after calling him via Zoom,” the report said late on Thursday.
“Throughout my time, I was always asked what puts you in a better position?’ From my first day to my last, my answer never changed: People. For six years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the smartest and most hardworking people,” Pierce posted on LinkedIn.
“To my colleagues at Better, I will miss you. And for those who have left Better, it’s so inspiring to see you are making incredible strides in your career and joining amazing companies.”
Two board members, Raj Date and Dinesh Chopra, resigned recently. According to the report, the employees were reportedly leaving the company after Garg returned to his role as CEO after a month-long break.
In December 2021, Garg laid off about 900 employees even after his company, which is a digital mortgage lender, announced that it had received about $750 million in cash from Aurora Acquisition Corp and SoftBank.
A few days after that Zoom meeting, senior communications and public relations executives stepped down. Garg later issued an apology for the shameful act, which made headlines globally and created hundreds of memes on social media platforms.
