Ashu is the second Congress minister to be arrested by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in a corruption case.

The day the entire top Punjab Congress leaders reached the Vigilance Bureau office to protest against the cases registered against their leaders, former Food and Supplies Minister and senior Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu was arrested from Ludhiana in connection with a tender allotment scam. . ,

Ashu is the second Congress minister to be arrested by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in a corruption case.

Interestingly, Ashu was also present at a dharna organized by his party colleagues, including state unit chief Raja Waring, outside the Vigilance Bureau office in Mohali on Monday.

He was picked up by the Bureau from Ludhiana in the evening.

Earlier, during the dharna, Ashu had claimed that he was innocent and alleged that he was being framed in the case.

The Vigilance Bureau had earlier arrested his personal assistant (PA) in connection with an alleged scam in which tenders were preferably allotted for labour, haulage and transportation of food grains. The Bureau had also questioned some contractors and the statements of some of them had pointed towards Ashu’s involvement in the scam.

The Congress has opened a front for the AAP government registering cases against its leaders and protesting for the last few days.
