New Delhi: India-backed satellite broadband provider OneWeb on Friday successfully deployed 40 more satellites launched with SpaceX from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
This was OneWeb’s seventeenth satellite launch.
“With 582 satellites now in orbit, OneWeb will complete the global footprint of its Gen 1 constellation with a launch set for later this month with ISRO/NSIL,” it said in a statement on Friday.
OneWeb has connectivity solutions active in key geographies around the world and is bringing new regions online by partnering with leading providers including VEON, Orange, Galaxy Broadband, Paratus, Telespazio and more.
OneWeb Chief Executive Officer Neil Masterson said, “Today’s launch is an exciting milestone as we are now just one mission away from completing our Gen 1 cohort, which will activate global service in 2023. Every launch is a group effort, and today’s is. The success would not have been possible without the dedication of the entire launch team and our partners here in Florida.”
The company said it and its partners remained focused on the mission of bridging the digital divide and providing Internet connectivity to the vast majority of unconnected and underserved rural and remote communities and businesses.
