Bhumi Pednekar said, “I have never considered myself just an actress. I have a lot of respect through cinema. I feel that films can have a cultural and social impact and through most of the films I have tried to start a conversation about the need to understand the causes and issues of the problem and maybe find real solutions to it. Through my films, I try to have conversations about important things with the audience in India.”
Bhumi adds, “Badhaai Do is a film that holds a special place in my heart. I have done a lot of work for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have family and friends in the LGBTQIA+ community and I am being a part of their journey. So many times I found myself helpless – I didn’t know how to share their pain, love and sadness. That’s why I got the film Badhaai Do.”
He says, “The overwhelming love and support I have received has given me the message that more films like this should be made!” People are more aware of making India a more inclusive place. Even at the height of COVID-19, when major theatrical centers were closed and there were many restrictions, like night shows were closed, theaters were running only at 50% capacity and many other restrictions were in place, congratulations drew people to the cinema And got amazing love from the audience.”
Bhumi adds, “After being released on OTT it also did worldwide twitter, it got a lot of love and appreciation from people across the globe. I am very much a survivor for the love I have got through the film and also I am very much a survivor for the exposure that I have got. This means that the audience is accepting what is said in the film. I think if the film has just released with COVID-19, it will do even better at the box office.”
Bhumi adds, “I am fortunate to have found a script like Badhaai Do, which gave me an opportunity to raise my voice for a cause that is very close to my heart. Pyaar toh pyaar hota hai and I hope Badhaai Do has contributed to sensitizing people to this reality.”
On the work front, Bhumi will be next seen in Anubhav Sinha’s Zodag, Ajay Behl’s The Ladykiller, Sudhir Mishra’s Ava, Gauri Khan’s Bhaskar, Mudassar Aziz’s Mere Husband Ki Biwi and some more unannounced projects.
