Biden mocks possible India connection in meeting with PM Modi

The President recalls an incident about which he was asked if he had any relatives in India. When he visited Mumbai as Ice President in 2013

US President Joe Biden pleasantly talks about his possible India connection during his Friday, September 24, 2021 First meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recounting a story about a man with the Biden surname when he was first elected as a senator in 1972.

Recalling the incident when he was in Mumbai as US Vice President in 2013, Mr Biden said he was asked if he have any relatives in india.

“I said I’m not sure, but when I was chosen as a 29-year-old kid in 1972, before I was sworn in, I received a letter from Mumbai from a man named Biden. I was never able to was to follow,” he said.

He said the next morning the press told him that there were five Bidens living in India.

Elaborating on this, Mr. Biden joked, “There was a Captain George Biden in the East India Tea Company. It’s hard for an Irishman to accept that. I shouldn’t be so casual. I hope you can.” Will understand the humour. The end result was that he apparently lived and married an Indian woman.”

“I’ve never been able to track it down, so the whole purpose of this meeting is to help me figure it out,” Mr Biden said, as laughs broke out among those in the meeting room, including Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Modi answered yes. “Did I belong?” The President asked when Mr. Modi told him that he had brought with him a set of documents from the Bidens investigation in India. “Yes,” Mr. Modi told Mr. Biden.

“Mister President, you spoke today and spoke at length about the Biden surname in India. In fact you mentioned it to me earlier as well. Well, when you mentioned it to me, I looked for the documents,” he said.

Mr. Modi said, “Today I have brought together a set of documents, maybe we can take this matter forward in the market, and maybe those documents can be of use to you.”
